E’ così che un perfetto sconosciuto della North Carolina, cresciuto tra i vinili di Otis Redding e James Brown, arriva al primo vero disco alla veneranda età di cinquantanni e più, dopo fugaci apparizioni in ormai introvabili 45 giri. La giovane etichetta Truth & Soul ci ha visto lungo nel supportare la voce di Mr Lee, con una macchina perfetta come gli Expressions (già con Amy Winehouse). La missione è quella di dare una veste “moderna” alla musica soul, sulla formula di band quali The Delfonics e The Stylistycs e farla conoscere alle nuove generazioni. Ci stanno riuscendo.
And just like that a perfectly anonymous gentleman from North Carolina, brought up with Otis Redding and James Brown’s vinyls, manages to produce his very first album at the tender age of 50 after few glancing appearances in
Lps that are almost nowhere to be found. The young label Truth & Soul did recognize his potential by supporting the voice of Mr Lee with an already perfectly working machine like the Expressions. The mission is to try to give a “modern” twist to soul music on the example of bands such as The Delfonics and The Stylistycs, in order to make it available to younger generations. And they are succeeding. They are indeed.
